"Explorations Play Studio is one of our most favorite places to be. My kids love the quantity of materials the studio offers, and I love their quality: materials that encourage imaginative, open-ended play and that respect childrens innate desire for beauty and of course, their innate desire to make a huge mess, which goes over better at Explorations than in my living room!"
Catherine Malone, mother of 3
"Imagine a beautiful open studio stocked full of the finest toys available, add experienced teachers and happy, involved children and you have Exploration Play Studio. Every detail has been carefully thought out from the large wooden blocks to the rituals during circle time. This is a one-of-a-kind setting, a place where children experience creativity and develop friendships doing what children naturally like to do--play. It is as close as you can get to a perfect environment for children."
Tracy Gallup, artist and author of King Cat, the Crazy Little series, Roomful of Questions
"Explorations is full of inspiration and magic. I cant wait to see what each new week and session will bring! It is the perfect setting to explore activities that might be a little too messy for at home fun. I have tried to create some of the activities at home and I find that even though it took me an hour to create it my child was ready to move on to something else in 5 minutes. This is the magic of Explorationsa child can move from one interesting activity to the next and back again and the parent can follow along and enjoy the chance to just playand not worry about the clean-up!"
Nicol Butters, mother of 3
"We cannot thank you enough for providing us and this community with the best option for children in Albemarle County and Charlottesville. Your patience and guidance have been so important for our child to grow and explore in an environment where he can be relaxed and safe. He loves coming to Explorations Play Studio!"
Leah Sherlock, mother of 2
"Explorations Play Studio is so peaceful, even when it is full of energy."
Christine Lotano, mother of 3
It has been a special bonding time with my child each week. Even though we are together almost all the time I rarely focus on play at home the same way-- the phone rings, I do laundry-- nor do I have the same quality toys.
Jo, mother of 3
"The atsmophere is calm and playful, so full of different experiences for children of all ages. Nicole is able to meet the needs of each child in a way that is nurturing and supportive. Its fun to watch children create their own play."
Jackie Curtis, mother
"Nicole knows how to react to each individual childs personality as neededto spark interest or to calm a situation. All the activities are thought provoking and inspire their imagination."
Eliza Gross, mother
"The studio really held our sons interest. He has a great imagination and he does not feel stifled. As an educator and a parent I am very impressed with Explorations Play Studio and everything it has to offer."
Alison Greene, mother
"There is such a mix of materials, learning toys and sensory-stimulating experiences that always makes the studio exciting and fun! We were looking for a place to interact together in a playful way and Explorations is perfect for that. We love the music you play each week and how you walk around helping children with their play in a subtle way."
Cali Hendericks, mother
"Explorations, the name says it all! Here children use their own imagination and follow their sense of curiousity and wonder to their hearts content. To be able to go out and find it was surprising. It fits how we live. I have much of it at home but it is nice to find it outside in the community in a place where kids interact."
Sharon Teeler, mother of 2
"What a wonderful place for my son to play and learn in a calm environment. It is like a Play Spa!"
Sile Allen, mother of 2
"There is a never-ending amount of activities for my child to get immersed in. He could come everyday for a year and still have something new to explore!"
Meri Jane Smith, mother
"My kids LOVE Explorations Play studio! I would even say they got addicted to the place! And I completely understand them. Every time you walk into the studio it is a whole new world to explore! The sheer joy on kids' faces is so delightful that I get a bit jealous that I am not that young anymore and cannot spend an hour and a half simply enjoying this world of little wonders that the studio has to offer. If you want your kids to spend some enchanted time playing with and exploring simple yet delightful toys and things of nature, and if you get enormous satisfaction from seeing your kid's beaming face when you pick her up, almost exploding with excitement from her desire to share with you what happened while you were gone, Explorations Play Studio is the place for you and your little (and not so little) ones."
Katyusha Fogg, mother of 2
"I knew I wanted to have my daughter's fourth birthday party at Explorations as soon as I walked in the door. It's such a beautiful, peaceful, fun, magical environment. It's such a huge departure from the highly commercialized feeling that you get from most child-oriented settings. Working with Nicole to set it up was as simple as signing up for a date and time, talking with her once on the phone about what to bring, and me showing up with the cake, punch, and tableware. The kids had an absolutely amazing time, and Nicole made everything flow beautifully. It was just like what I'd hoped it would be like. The kids could have stayed at the Studio another hour or two or more, and never gotten bored."
Christine Gresser, mother of 2 girls
"A childrens birthday party was the last place I expected to find design inspiration, but this was a unique party in a most extraordinary place. Upon arrival my husband looked over the pint-sized giddy faces right into my Zen-like eyes and smiled, This is your kind of place, isnt it? It was! But it was also my childrens kind of place. It was orderly, innovative, and inspirational for all of us. Comfort is what I felt when I first stepped insidebut make no mistake when the kids get going, Explorations is a very busy place. The children scatter in different directions and the once organized room morphs into controlled chaos, some playing side by side, others opting to work alone. What a place! No cache of plastic bins or battery operated toys. No signs of neon pink or the primary colors we normally associate with play areas. It was everything I hoped my home would look like once we had children. It was grown up, comfortable, and enticing for little hands. I was amazed at how engaged and delighted my children were as they made magic from the ordinary."
